I always thought that cartoons were ageless. But in these images we can see they are worn out, Olive Oil (from Popeye) and Miss Piggy are trashed. They are filthy, sordid, and even vulgar. In this work the
performer is no longer the caricature but the mask itself. An empty mask. Many of these characters are part of Northamerica’s mythic culture that like a roller coaster goes from low to high culture in a matter of seconds. As it is being said it is between Beauty and the Beast, aesthetic and horrific. Also, McCarthy thinks that the props (like these masks) of popular culture are agents that condition and control Western cultue. It reveals the fiction in all of these fabrications that reach every point of the globe in commodification and consumption. The mask of the character is then a control mechanism of morality and archetypes. As we can see from the images, it is
no longer a story of fairy tales but a reaffirmation of good and evil, the villain and the saint of the story. McCarthy doesn’t intend to talk from the provocation but from a space of resistance.

Siempre pensé que los dibujos animados no tenían edad. Pero en estas imágenes podemos ver que están desgastadas, el aceite de oliva (de Popeye) y Miss Piggy están destrozados. Son sucios, sórdidos e incluso vulgares. En este trabajo, el intérprete ya no es la caricatura sino la máscara en sí. Una máscara vacía Muchos de estos personajes son parte de la cultura mítica de Norteamérica que, como una montaña rusa, pasa de una cultura baja a una alta en cuestión de segundos. Como se dice, es entre La Bella y la Bestia, estética y horrible. Además, McCarthy piensa que los accesorios (como estas máscaras) de la cultura popular son agentes que condicionan y controlan la cultura occidental. Revela la ficción en todas estas fabricaciones que llegan a todos los puntos del mundo en materia de mercantilización y consumo. La máscara del personaje es entonces un mecanismo de control de la moral y los arquetipos. Como podemos ver en las imágenes, ya no es una historia de cuentos de hadas, sino una reafirmación del bien y el mal, el villano y el santo de la historia. McCarthy no tiene la intención de hablar desde la provocación sino desde un espacio de resistencia.
