En los años 70, John Stezaker utilizó imágenes de otros autores, como postales, revistas o fotografías de libros, para hacer collages. Generalmente imágenes de la glamorosa era de Hollywood, el cine británico de la primera década del siglo XX y fotografías que le recordaban su infancia. Con este material, crea yuxtaposiciones extrañas y poéticas. Utilizando el contenido y el contexto de las imágenes originales, busca transmitir sus propios significados, con sentido del humor y nostalgia. “Máscara XIV” es un collage de una postal y una fotografía en blanco y negro. La imagen es un retrato publicitario de un actor no identificado tomado en la década de 1940 o 1950. Su trabajo es surrealista, combinando retratos cargados de glamour con paisajes, cuevas o cascadas de postales antiguas para crear nuevas imágenes de misterio y belleza.
