Cindy Sherman
United States

Cindy Sherman is an artist who through photography reconfigures her face and body for the camera.  Through subtle distortions or grotesque prosthetics, he alters his features so that he becomes almost unrecognizable to the public.  Sherman generally disguises himself in his images.  Use backdrops, wigs, facial expressions, makeup, and poses to transform into a range of feminine archetypes.  Known for her photographs that explore and question representations of women from the Renaissance portrait to the contemporary media.  Sherman will explore dark themes in his work, composing nightmare pictures, incorporating prosthetic limbs, masks, and ambiguous fluids.  Unlike their disguised self-portraits, the central figures in these works are dolls or mannequins, resulting in mysterious and grotesque images.
