En Fastnacht, Axel Hoedt (fotógrafo) publica importantes colecciones relacionadas con los carnavales locales alemanes, austriacos y suizos. Hoedt no se enfoca en un etnógrafo o documentalista, trató de contar una historia personal, a través de la calma, la quietud y la cuidadosa selección de personajes, dejando espacio para la interpretación. Sus fotos, básicamente retratos, muestran una interpretación personal del estado mental en el que participan figuras enmascaradas y disfrazadas. Hoedt viajó por el sur de Alemania con una cámara de gran formato, construyendo un estudio portátil en las aldeas que visitó. Las fotografías fueron tomadas en 2008 durante las tres semanas del festival Fastnacht, que depende de la Pascua. Fastnacht tiene raíces en las tradiciones cristianas y paganas, donde las máscaras grotescas y aterradoras a menudo se utilizan para ahuyentar a los espíritus del invierno. Además de vestirse durante el festival Fastnacht, los aldeanos asumen roles y adoptan los rasgos de los personajes que retratan en desfiles públicos. In Fastnacht, Axel Hoedt (photographer) publishes important collections related to the local German, Austrian and Swiss carnivals. Hoedt's focus is not of an ethnographer or documentary filmmaker, he tried to tell a personal story, through  calm, stillness, and the careful selection of characters, leaving room for interpretation. His photos, basically portraits, shows a personal interpretation of the state of mind in which masked and disguised figures are involved.  Hoedt traveled through southern Germany with a large-format camera, building a portable studio in the villages he visited. The photographs were taken in 2008 during the three weeks of the Fastnacht festival, which depends on Easter. Fastnacht has roots in Christian and pagan traditions, where grotesque and terrifying masks are often used to chase away the spirits of winter. In addition to dressing during the Fastnacht festival, the villagers take on roles and adopt the traits of the characters they portray in public parades. The series asks about studio portrait photography and costume use in relation to regional traditions, cultural identity and collective memory.
